On 30 May 2015, Sunwah Group and the UK De Montfort University (DMU) jointly held a press conference in Beijing to announce the establishment of the “Jonathan KS Choi Creative and Cultural Centre” and the “Jonathan KS Choi Business School” to promote cultural exchange between the two countries and training of international business leaders. The date also marked the 10th anniversary of the 3e International School which has been operated with the best integrated educational system between China and the US. 3e has become a renowned international kindergarten and primary school in Beijing.
In his remarks Dr. Jonathan Choi pointed out that the rapid development of China, in particular the recent announcement of the “One Belt One Road” state strategic policy, provided ample space for Sunwah as a participant in local business development, and also a promoter and witness for social and cultural advancement in China, ASEAN and the East Asian regions.
Jonathan KS Choi Creative and Cultural Centre
The Jonathan KS Choi Creative and Cultural Centre is located at the UK De Montfort University. The curator Wu Wei Shan of the National Art Museum of China will specially design a sculpture “Dialogue between Confucius and Shakespeare” permanently displayed at the Centre. In addition, the DMU School of Design, together with the Confucius Institute, a four-party joint establishment among the Beijing Confucius Institute, the Sunwah Foundation, the Beijing University of Science and Technology, and the DMU, will be housed in the Centre. The Centre will serve as a new platform to promote Chinese creativity and cultural exchanges.
Jonathan KS Choi Business School
To further enhance co-operation in education between Sunwah and DMU, Dr. Choi invested an initial capital of RMB300 million to establish the Jonathan KS Choi Business School with the target of developing the School to the same standard as the “Harvard Business School” in Europe and China. It will serve as a training and researching base to reach Nobel Prize winning standard, and as a bridge for co-operation and exchanges in education, business and culture between Europe and China. The School will be located at the 800 years old historic castle in Leicester and rented to Sunwah for 120 years.
