Dr. Jonathan Choi, Chairman of the CGCC led a delegation to attend the 14th World Chinese Entrepreneur Convention at Yangon, Myanmar between 15-18 September 2017. Hong Kong Chief Executive, Mrs. Carrie Lam was invited to deliver a keynote address.
With the theme of “An Opening Economy in Myanmar, A new Epoch in History”, the Convention further strengthens the coalition of worldwide Chinese entrepreneurs, in particular the ASEAN countries in participating the “Belt and Road initiatives” for new economic opportunities. The Convention attracted 3000 entrepreneurs and government officials from more than 20 countries including Mainland China, Hong Kong, ASEAN countries and regions worldwide.
Mrs. Carrie Lam said that Hong Kong and the ASEAN will sign a free trade agreement and related investment agreement to give Hong Kong better access to the ASEAN markets in areas covering tradings, services, investments, economic, technical and dispute solutions mechanism co-operations.
ASEAN takes important co-operative role in the “Belt and Road” markets.
Dr. Choi said Hong Kong could take the role of C.I.O. in the “Belt and Role” markets. “C” is Connector, “I” is Investor, and “O” is Operator. Hong Kong has the unique advantages as a super connector to create new and bigger markets of the Mainland China, the ASEAN and the Belt and Road countries.
