Sunwah Group celebrated from Macao to the World for 62 years at the University of Macau (UM)
on 1 November 2019. A series of celebrating events were held including founding of the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Research of Industry Chain Ltd” and “the 5th anniversary of the Choi Kai Yau College of UM”.

Sunwah Group started seafood business in Macau and has developed into a multi-national corporation. As Chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Research of Industry Chain, Dr. Jonathan Choi pointed out that the founding of the Research of Industry Chain aimed to gather professional experts in finance, technology and media culture of the three areas to provide strategies and concrete plans for the development of the Bay Area.
The Macao Secretary for Economy and Finance Mr Liang Wei Te pointed out that Macao needed to deepen and dock precisely with cities of the Bay Area so as to build models of creative co-operative platforms, optimize industrial structures, speed up Macao’s competitiveness and modernize the chain systems.
Fifth anniversary of the UM Choi Kai Yau College
The Choi’s family has been actuating public services in Macao through the Choi’s Cultural and Educational Foundation for 30 years. In the name of Dr. Choi’s father, the Choi Kai Yau College of UM has been in operation for five years. In the recent decade, under the Jonathan KS Choi Foundation, a number of cultural centres has been established in various countries, which link up world young leaders. A Global Young Leaders Network was formed in co-operation with world universities to promote cultural exchanges.
President of the UM Professor Song Yonghua stressed that the University was devising new strategies to cope with the new challenges for developing into a globally recognized top academic institution. After the opening ceremony, an international forum was held with representatives from universities of Canada, Japan, Vietnam, France, Mainland and Hong Kong spoke at the ceremony to explore new trends in international education and exchanges.
In celebrating the 5th anniversary of the Choi Kai Yau College, the unveiling ceremony of Mr. Choi Kai Yau oil painting and inscription was held to commemorate Mr. Choi’s contribution to the UM. In addition, a student photo exhibition on “the hidden beauty of Macau” was also held at the College.
