For the fifth year Sunwah Group sponsors the opening performance of the China National Day Concert celebrating the 63rd anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, and the 15th anniversary of HKSAR. The Concert was held on 28 September 2012 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
HKPO took this special occasion to welcome Jaap van Zweden, the new Music Director who has chosen the National Day Concert as his debut concert. Jaap is an internationally renowned conductor who was named Musical America’s Conductor of the Year for 2012. This is indeed great news to have him in Hong Kong‘s musical arena.
Deputy Director Yang Jianping of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in HKSAR, Deputy Commissioner Hong Xiaoyong of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in HKSAR, and Secretary Tsang Tak Sing of the Home Affairs Bureau were the Guests of Honour.
Distinguished guests from the political and business sectors attended the Concert, including the Consul Generals from Austria, Brazil, Chile, Finland, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Kuwait, Myanmar, Netherlands, The Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, USA, and Vietnam. Among the VIPs also include music lovers Financial Secretary John Tsang and Secretary Tam Chi-yuen of the Constitution and Mainland Affairs Bureau.
Speaking at the cocktail reception, Dr. Jonathan Choi expressed his gratefulness to all guests for their long-time support and for sharing the joy of appreciating great music and celebrating a better China and HKSAR.
